Serving the general public since 1844, the British Hospital of Buenos Aires is a non-profit community hospital owned in trust by fiduciary members who come from and represent the local English speaking community of Buenos Aires. The members of its board of governors are elected from this group of individuals.
As a university hospital, the British Hospital is associated with the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Buenos Aires, and since 2009 with the Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina's Medical School, and is renowned for its innovative and ethical traditions as well as the skill and care of its medical and nursing staff.
The British Hospital provides medical care of the highest standards to private patients, those with coverage from the principal local health insurance plans (including the British Hospital’s own “Plan de Salud” and  “Contributory Scheme”) and those with foreign medical travel insurance.
The main hospital centre extends beyond a full city block in the neighbourhood of Barracas and offers full medical care, comfortable single rooms and modern technology for the treatment of medical emergencies and both simple and complex medical conditions.  Ambulatory health care centres are available for primary medical care in Barrio Norte, Vicente López, Lanús and Lomas de Zamora.

Casi Nuevo (‘Nearly New’) is a Charity Shop that sells books, small household items and clothes. Run by volunteers, it provides financial support to the Babs home for the elderly in Villa Devoto.

Shop hours:
Mondays, Tuesdays & Wednesdays:
9 am to 6 pm
Saturdays: 10 am to 12:30 pm

How you can help:

BY SENDING CONTRIBUTIONS: Good books, recent magazines; clothes in good condition (men / women / children) & household articles, all donations are most welcome.

BY LENDING YOUR TIME: Volunteers are needed at the shop for 3 hour shifts: Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays (9 to 12; 12 to 3; 3 to 6 pm) & Saturdays from 10 to 12:30.

BY SHOPPING: If you are in search of bargains or delight in bookshelf browsing – step in to Casi Nuevo! Visit us during Shop hours (see above).

BY TELLING FRIENDS: If you know anyone who might be interested in any of the above you can help our cause by sharing this information. People moving to another country or to a smaller home often have items to give away….
